Washington Set For Home Tri Meet
March 08, 2018 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE – The #9 Washington GymDawgs return home this week after setting a season-high with a team score of 197.075 last week. Washington will host UC Davis and Seattle Pacific on Friday, March 9 at 7:00 pm for Salute to Service Night. The GymDawgs will celebrate the work of police, fire fighters, first responders, veterans, and all other who serve the community in their work. Tickets for all home meets are available online.
Washington broke 197 for the third time last week, recording its highest team score since putting up a 197.175 against Arizona on February 19, 2017. Washington had not broken 197 three times in a single season since 2004.
The GymDawgs earned three individual event titles against Southern Utah. Maya Washington won the floor competition with a score of 9.900, the fourth time this season she has reached that career-high score. Monica Riley set a new career high with a score of 9.925 to win the bars event title. That was the highest bars score of any GymDawg this season and part of the season-best team score of 49.375, over a tenth of a point better than the GymDawgs have had on bars all season.
Evanni Roberson and Malory Rose tied for the beam event title, with each putting up scores of 9.900. It was the second 9.900 and second beam event title in the last three weeks for Rose. Roberson has now had a beam score of 9.900 or higher for three weeks running, including a career-best 9.925 against Stanford.
This will be one of the last two home competitions for Washington before the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday, March 24 in Tucson, Arizona. Washington will also host Boise State and BYU on Senior Night on Thursday, March 15.
