
Washington Looks To Break 197 Again At Senior Night

SEATTLE - Fresh off their highest team score since 2004, the #8 Washington GymDawgs are set to face #16 Boise State and #19 BYU in the final home competition of the year. The tri meet will be Thursday, March 15 at 6:00 pm and will be the team's annual Alumni and Senior Night, celebrating past GymDawgs and all of the amazing contributions this year's seniors have made to the program. The GymDawgs tied or broke ten individual career highs last week against UC Davis and Seattle Pacific as Washington scored over 197 for the fourth time this season with a 197.400. Hailey Burleson won the vault, beam, floor, and all-around competitions while setting career highs on bars (9.900) and all-around (39.600). Burleson, who has now won 14 individual event titles this season, also tied her career-high score on beam with a 9.925.
Evanni Roberson matched that beam score, winning a share of the event title with her career-high score of 9.925. Roberson's beam score was one of nine scores of 9.900 or higher by the GymDawgs in the competition. Roberson would also set a new career high on bars with her score of 9.900.
Monica Riley set a new career high on bars en route to her fourth bars event title with her score of 9.950. That was the highest individual score of the season for the GymDawgs and helped propel Washington to 14th in the nation in bars. Washington is in the top 25 in all four events now, led by their sixth-ranked floor team and seventh-ranked beam squad.
Madison Copiak, Kristyn Hoffa, Michaela Nelson, and Maya Washington all set or tied career highs against UC Davis and Seattle Pacific as well. Copiak and Hoffa tied their career-best vault scores with scores of 9.850. Washington tied her career-high floor score with her fifth score of 9.900 this season. Nelson set a new career high on beam, competing there for the first time this season.
Boise State enters this week's matchup 16th in the country, led by their 11th-ranked floor squad. The Broncos have gone over 196.500 in three of the last four weeks and have a season-best score of 196.875, set February 16 against Utah State.
BYU is in the top 25 in bars, beam, and floor, powering it along to its 19th national ranking. BYU had its second-highest team score of the season last week with a 196.500 at a home quad meet. The best team score of the year for the Cougars came at home against Denver and Southern Utah, when BYU earned a 196.625.
This will be the final home competition of the year for Washington, which will head to the Pac-12 Championships in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, March 24.
