GymDawgs Continue To Climb Rankings With Stanford Up Next
February 21, 2018 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE – The #10 Washington GymDawgs return home this week after a season-high score of 197.025 on the road. The GymDawgs have put up scores over 197 twice in a row now and will look to continue that trend as they host the #22 Stanford Cardinal Saturday, February 24 at 4:00 pm in the GymDawgs' Purple Strong meet.
The GymDawgs moved into the top 15 as a team in bars, beam, and floor as a team after last week's showing, pushing them to the top ten overall. Washington is ranked 11th in the nation on both bars and beam and are eighth on floor. As a team, the GymDawgs are averaging a score of 49.193 on floor and have gone over that mark in four of the last five competitions.
Against Arizona State, Washington matched its season high on floor (49.375) and bars (49.200) while setting a new season high on vault with a score of 49.125. The GymDawgs won every event except beam against the Sun Devils.
Hailey Burleson and Evanni Roberson were near the top of every event, tying for the event title on vault with matching scores of 9.875. The pair tied for the beam event title with teammate Malory Rose as all three recorded scores of 9.900. That score was a new career high for Rose.
On floor, Burleson tied with Maya Washington for the event title, each putting up scores of 9.900. That mark tied Maya Washington's career-best floor score, a mark she has reached three times this season, including in each of the last two meets.
Burleson also won her third all-around title of the season with a score of 39.525. That put her just ahead of Roberson, who set a new career-high score on all-around at 39.425. Roberson has improved her all-around score each of the last two meets.
Stanford comes to Seattle having won its last competition, coming against San Jose State, Seattle Pacific, and UC Davis. The Cardinal are 22nd overall but 15th on floor and 16th on beam. Stanford is helped along by Elizabeth Price, who is fifth in the nation in average all-around score at 39.550.
This will be the third and final home Pac-12 meet for the GymDawgs. Washington will also host Seattle Pacific and UC Davis as well as Boise State and BYU in two tri meets later this season. Tickets for all home meets are available online.
