SEATTLE – Washington men's tennis is set to host the 2018 ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championship this weekend, Feb. 16-19, at both the Nordstrom Tennis Center and the Seattle Tennis Club. The first match for UW will be against No. 1 Wake Forest on Friday at 6:30 p.m. PT.
For the eighth time in Washington's storied history, this event will be held on campus and at the Seattle Tennis Club. The top-15 teams will be competing in the tournament, including three fellow Pac-12 schools in Stanford, UCLA and USC.
This is the eighth time that the Huskies have hosted the ITA Team Indoor Championship, dating back to 1999 when it was first held in Seattle. In each of the seven previous years hosting the event, the Dawgs have picked up at least one win. In 2001 and 2004, Washington won two matches with the best finish coming in 2004 (fifth place).
In 2018, Washington has compiled a 6-1 record, currently riding a five-match win streak. Senior captain Jake Douglas is ranked No. 48 in the ITA Division I Men's Rankings in singles with a 7-0 record.
Washington's first opponent will be No. 1 Wake Forest, which features six players ranked in the ITA singles rankings, including two in the top 25. The Demon Deacons also have two duos ranked in the ITA doubles list. This will be the first meeting between these two schools in men's tennis.
The Dawgs and Demon Deacons will face off at 6:30 p.m. PT at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The matches begin on Friday at 9 a.m. PT. The full draw for the tournament can be seen on the ITA's website.
