Tavistock Collegiate Invitational Up Next for UW
October 20, 2018 | Men's Golf
SEATTLE β The Huskies are back in action after a few weeks at practice as the men's golf team heads to Florida to play in the prestigious 15th annual Tavistock Collegiate Invitational. The 54-hole event begins Sunday, Oct. and plays through Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the par-72, 7,544 yard Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windemere, Fla.
FROM COACH MURRAY:Β "This is an extremely strong field to compete against this early in the year. It's a new tournament for us on a superb golf course. We'll be playing on Bermuda grass which is not the norm for us but this is the beauty of the college golf experience, travelling to different parts of the country experiencing different styles of golf and different conditions. We played on Bermuda at Colonial and I feel like we learned a lot from that. This is a different course in that it's longer from what I hear but the greens are challenging and missing in the right spots makes a difference. I think the guys have been playing reasonably well and showing some very positive sign so we need to translate that to tournament play and see if we can beat some really good teams this week."
THE FIELD:Β Washington will be joined by 14 other teams at Isleworth; No. 9 Illinois, No. 10 Texas, No. 13 Vanderbilt, Arizona State, No. 20 Auburn, No. 24 South Carolina, No. 25 California, Augusta, Texas Tech, Cal State Fullerton, North Texas, LSU and West Virginia.
THE LINEUP:Β The Huskies will play Henry Lee, Noah Woollsey, Padraic Sim, Jan Schneider and Paul Margolis.
Β
LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies finished the prestigious Nike Golf Collegiate Invite in 14th place. In a field of nine teams ranked in the top 25 nationally, Washington was led by sophomore Jan Schneider who posted his second-straight top 25 finish as he tied for 23rd. Sophomore Noah Woolsey closed the event strong, as he climbed 11 pots into a tie for 39th.
Β
FRESH ROSTER:Β Also most half of the Huskies roster for 2018-19 will be new to Montlake this season as the Dawgs welcome freshmenΒ Paul MargolisΒ (Cannes, France),Β Robert MoranΒ (Dublin, Ireland),Β Ranveer GrewalΒ (Ludhiana, Indiana) andΒ Padraic SimΒ (Spanish Fort, Alabama). The newcomers bring a wealth of international experience as three come to Seattle from outside of the country.
Β
WHAT'S BACK:Β JuniorΒ Henry LeeΒ and sophomoreΒ Noah WoolseyΒ were second and third on the team in stroke average a year ago and return to lead the Huskies this season. Lee competed in 13 events including earning a spot at the NCAA Pacific Regional alongsideΒ Carl Yuan. He averaged a 72.37, posted two top 10 showings with his best being a sixth-place tie while also shooting under par in 15 of his 38 rounds. Woolsey averaged 72.91 in his 12 events and finished in the top two of the lineup for UW in six of those outings.
Β
FALL SCHEDULE:Β Head coachΒ Alan MurrayΒ didn't hold back when scheduling the Huskies fall slate as UW will traverse the country and play on some impressive courses against some of the top teams in the country. Along with the first tournament in Minnesota, which featured eight teams that competed at the NCAA Championships a year ago, Washington will play at the Nike Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country club in Texas and the Tavistock Collegiate at Isleworth Country Club in Florida. After a two-year hiatus, UW returns to hosting the Husky Invitational and welcoming some of the top teams in the region to the Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish, Sept. 25-26. Closing the season, the team will play at the Royal Ka'anapali course in Hawaii for the first time.
Β
HUSKIES IN THE PROS:Β Washington golf alumni have been very visible on the pro circuits this season with C.T. Pan currently sitting 33rdΒ in the FedEx Cup rankings on the PGA Tour. He's posted two top 10 finishes this season with his best coming at the Wyndham Championship where he tied for second. He also tied for fourth at the Dell Technologies Championship. Alex Prugh again earned his PGA Card after solid showings on the Web.Com Tour whileΒ Corey PereiraΒ has been strong on the Mackenzie Tour, recently winning his first title on the tour at the ATB Financial Classic.Β Carl Yuan, Nick Taylor, and eight other former Dawgs are also competing professionally.
