Dawgs to Play at Annual Stanford Intercollegiate This Weekend

SEATTLE – The University of Washington women's golf team is back in action this weekend as it heads to the 23rd Stanford Intercollegiate, Friday-Sunday, Oct. 19-21 at the Stanford Golf Course in California.
The tournament includes 18 holes on Friday, Oct. 19, followed by 18 on Saturday, Oct. 20 and 18 on Sunday, Oct. 21. The team will play the par-71, 6,130-yard course at Stanford.
The highly competitive 17-team field includes No. 2 UCLA, No. 6 Stanford, No. 11 Northwestern, No. 13 Arizona State, No. 14 Washington, No. 17 Oklahoma State, Oregon, Iowa State, Washington State, California, Florida State, USC, San Diego State, Denver, Harvard, Pepperdine and San Jose State.
Earlier this week competing as an individual, junior Karen Miyamoto finished second in a playoff at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational. Miyamoto finished the 36 hole tournament with a 2-under 214 (74-71-69) to tie for first. After a three hole playoff, HBU's Kaity Cummings came out on top. Sophomore Wenyan Ma placed tied for 49th at 18-over 234 (78-75-81).
THE LINEUP: The Huskies will send freshman Martha Lewis, junior Alice Duan and seniors Sarah Rhee, Wenyung Keh and Julianne Alvarez.
BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS: Washington women's golf started its fall campaign with a bang taking home team titles in both of its first two events. First, the Dawgs won a share of the team title at the NIttany Lion Invitational after carding an even-par 864 (294-287-283). They followed that up with a 24-stroke victory at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, the Dawgs lone home tournament of the year hosted at Sahalee.
RHEE-DICULOUS: Senior Sarah Rhee has picked up right where she left off from a year ago as she has yet to finish outside of the top 10 in the first two events of the year. After tying for seventh in the season-opening tournament at Penn State, she went on to earn her first collegiate individual championship taking home the crown at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational. In her last nine events dating back to last season, the senior has only finished outside of the top 10 twice.
TOP 10 EFFORTS: Six of Washington's eight student-athletes have posted at least one top 10 effort so far this season led by Rhee who has yet to finish outside of the top 10. Joining her with top 10 efforts are senior Julianne Alvarez (T3rd; Edean Ihlanfeldt), sophomore Rino Sasaki (T3rd; Edean Ihlanfeldt), Alice Duan (4th; Nittany Lion), freshman Martha Lewis (T9th; Edean Ihlanfeldt) and senior Wenyung Keh (T9th; Edean Ihlanfeldt).
FALL SCHEDULE: Washington will compete in four fall tournaments along with hosting one event before spring play starts. After winning the Nittany Lion Classic, UW is hosting the Edean Ihlanfeldt, Oct. 9-10 at Sahallee Golf Club, followed by the Stanford Intercollegiate, Oct. 19-21. The Dawgs will wrap up fall play Nov. 5-7 at the Pac-12 Preview played at Nanea Golf Club in Hawaii.
LAST SEASON RESULTS: Featuring a lineup of three juniors and two underclassmen, Washington went on to tie for ninth at the NCAA Championships, just missing the match play segment of the tournament. The Huskies finished fifth at the NCAA Tallahassee Regionals en route to earning a spot at the National event and were led by Sarah Rhee who tied for eighth. Overall UW posted eight top five finishes a year ago along with earning two team titles. Wenyung Keh led the team with a 73.00 stroke average and along with Rhee, posted five top 10 efforts on the year. Keh also set the UW single-round record when she shot a 9-under 63 in the first round of the NCAA Tallahassee Regionals.
SENIOR EXPERIENCE: The Huskies lineup still features three members of the 2016 NCAA National Championship squad in juniors Sarah Rhee, Julianne Alvarez and Wenyung Keh. The trio were freshman when Washington made history and all three contributed to UW's victory in match play. Since their freshman season, the trio have combined for 30 top 10 finishes, nine during their freshman campaign, six as sophomores and 12 last season.
NEW FACES: Washington's lineup will feature two new faces in junior transfer Alice Duan and freshman Martha Lewis. Duan comes to UW from Cal State Northridge and has been a standout on the amateur circuit. She advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.W. Women's Amateur National Championship this summer and claimed the title of the 2018 West Coast Women's Amateur and earned a victory at the Sacramento City Championship. Lewis hails from Surrey, England, the same city as former Husky and national champion Charlotte Thomas. She's represented England on the international circuit since 2013, posting numerous top 10 showings.
