Washington Begins Home Season Against Cal

SEATTLE β After an impressive opening week, the #13 Washington GymDawgs will open their home schedule this week with a competition against the #23 California Golden Bears on Saturday, January 20 at 12:30 pm.Β

The GymDawgs had two meets last week to start the season, defeating Sacramento State in a dual meet, then taking third behind two top-five teams at Elevate the Stage.Β

Hailey Burleson had event titles on vault and beam at Sacramento State with scores of 9.875 in each.Β The senior also took second on bars with a score of 9.775.Β At Elevate the Stage, Burleson's score of 9.800 on floor was the second-best amongst GymDawgs.

Evanni Roberson impressed in the first week of the season as well with a score of 9.875 on vault at Elevate the Stage that was good for fourth overall.Β She also had the highest-scoring floor routine of the entire competition at Sacramento State with a score of 9.825.Β Sacramento State marked the sophomore's first all-around competition as a GymDawg, recording a score of 39.100.

Madison Copiak earned a fourth-place finish at Elevate the Stage as well when she matched her career-high on the bars with a score of 9.900.Β It was the highest bars score of any GymDawg since Kaitlyn Duranczyk's score of 9.900 at Pac-12's last season.

This will also be the third competition of the season for Cal.Β The Golden Bears started the year with a first-place finish at the five-team NorCal Classic.Β Four days later, Cal took to the road and fell 196.025-194.350 to BYU.

The competition against Cal will also be the GymDawgs' Gympowerment promotion, celebrating how gymnastics enriches lives. Tickets for all home meets are available online.Β The competition will also be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.

After this competition, the GymDawgs will hit the road for two weeks, returning home for a Saturday, February 10 competition against Oregon State.
