GymDawgs Get Home Win Against Cal

SEATTLE β The #13 Washington GymDawgs came away with the win in their first home competition of the season, besting #23 California 196.325-194.850 in their highest-scoring competition of the early season.Β Evanni Roberson had two top-two event finishes while Hailey Burleson and Maya Washington each recorded scores of 9.900 on floor, matching the highest individual mark for Washington this season on any event.

"We all were so excited to be at home in front our amazing fans after two meets on the road," said Head Coach Elise Ray-Statz about the big opener to the home season.Β "The energy was amazing in the arena and the girls took another step forward which feels really good.Β It's time to get even more comfortable competing and really fine tune."

Haley Roy took second on vault with her score of 9.875, the third time this year a GymDawg has scored that highly on vault.Β On bars, it was a four-way tie for third amongst GymDawgs as Roberson, Madison Copiak, Michaela Nelson, and Maya Washington all had scores of 9.825.
"I'm very proud of the step the team took and excited to get back in the gym this week to prep for Metroplex," said Ray-Statz.

Vault, 48.950 β Roy matched the GymDawgs' highest score on vault this year with a score of 9.875.Β Roberson had a score of 9.825, while Monica Riley had a score of 9.800.

Bars, 49.100 β Roberson, Copiak, Nelson, and Maya Washington all had scores of 9.825, good for third place.Β Burleson and Riley each had scores of 9.800 as well.

Beam, 48.900 β Roberson was the highest-scoring GymDawg on beam with a score of 9.825.Β Just behind her third-place score were Burleson and Maya Washington, each with scores of 9.800.

Floor, 49.375 β Burleson and Maya Washington tied for second on floor with each recording scores of 9.900.Β Zoey Schaefer and Kristyn Hoffa had scores of 9.875, with Roberson wrapping up Washington's counted floor scores with a score of 9.825.

It's back on the road for the GymDawgs next as Washington will take part in the Metroplex Challenge on Saturday, January 27 at 5:00 pm.Β That meet will feature UCLA, LSU, and North Carolina State.Β Both UCLA and LSU are ranked in the top five in the nation.
