SEATTLE - Nonconference play concludes this week for the seventh-ranked Husky volleyball team on the East Coast. Also wrapping up is the four year rotating tournament featuring the Huskies, Maryland, Oklahoma, and USC, which makes its final stop in College Park, Maryland this Thursday and Friday. Washington (8-1) will take on the Sooners this Thursday at 1 p.m. Pacific time and then face the host Terrapins on Friday at 4 p.m. Pacific at the XFINITY Center. Both UW matches will be streamed live on BTN Plus, which requires a subscription.
The tournament's first year in 2014 featured UW and USC out of the Pac-12 and Maryland and Wisconsin from the Big Ten, but after that year the Badgers dropped out and were replaced by Oklahoma out of the Big 12. The Huskies are aiming to finish the four year run with a perfect 8-0 record if they can win twice this week.
The Huskies are on a six-match winning streak and looking to ramp up their offense after winning some defensive battles last week at Pepperdine. In the Pac-12 stat rankings, UW is second in blocks at 3.41 per set, second in aces at 1.69, third in kills at 14.24, and fourth in digs at 14.28 per set, but ranks just eighth in attack percentage with a .267 mark..
Oklahoma comes in with a 3-6 record thus far, winning two of its last three matches over Nicholls State and Southern Mississippi but losing at Tulane last week. The Sooners have played one Pac-12 opponent, losing in four sets to Colorado. Oklahoma is being outhit on the season, .210 to .181. Alyssa Enneking has been a consistent scorer with 4.00 kills per set and a .247 attack percentage, and middle blocker Paige Anderson is hitting .274 with 1.62 kills and 0.97 blocks. Washington won the meeting with the Sooners each of the past two years, both in four sets.
Maryland has yet to be beaten this season with a 9-0 record, though only three of those nine wins have come in straight sets. The Terps are hitting .303 on the season and holding opponents to a .153 mark. They have served 1.71 aces per set and are blocking 2.49 balls a set. Outside hitter Erika Pritchard's 3.37 kills per set leads the team and she is hitting .326, and also has an impressive 24 aces already, a 0.69 aces per set average that ranks fourth nationally. Middle Hailey Murray is hitting .484 which ranks seventh nationally, with 2.09 kills per set and libero Kelsey Wicinski is posting 4.57 digs per set.
