Washington Hosts Seattle In Final Non-Conference Matchup
September 12, 2017 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – After another tournament victory this last week, the Washington Huskies return to Seattle for one last non-conference game this week before Pac-12 play starts. The Huskies will have a 7:00 pm PT matchup against the Seattle Redhawks on Friday, September 15.
Last week, the Huskies took down Boise State 2-0 and Baylor 1-0 to win the Nike Portland Invitational and continue their winning streak, which now sits at four games. Sianna Siemonsma was named the tournament's Offensive MVP after scoring two goals against Boise State. It was the freshman's first collegiate brace and the third this season for the Huskies, who also had Shannon Simon and Kimberly Keever record two-goal games.
Jessica Udovich was named the Defensive MVP of the tournament as she played every minute of both games while helping the Huskies record two shutouts. Amanda Perez scored the only goal of the game against Baylor on Sunday, scoring on a penalty kick.
Sarah Shimer's shutout streak stretched to 364 minutes after this last week, as she has gone four consecutive games without allowing a goal. That is the longest shutout streak by a Husky goalie since 2004, when Kelsey Rasmussen had a 467-minute streak over five games.
This week, the Huskies take on Seattle U for the eighth time since Seattle rejoined Division I. Washington has never lost to the Redhawks in its history, going 10-0 overall. The Huskies have not allowed a goal to the Redhawks since 2012 and have allowed just five goals total in the series.
This season, the Redhawks are 3-3-0, having lost to Santa Clara 4-1 last time out. Before that, Seattle was in the midst of a three-game winning streak, defeating Pacific, Hawai'i, and Idaho. Jessie Ray and Leahi Manthei lead the Redhawks in goals this year, with each recording four thus far.
