
No. 11 Washington Scores Two Late To Defeat Loyola Marymount

SEATTLE -- The No. 11 University of Washington men's soccer team scored two second-half goals to defeat Loyola Marymount 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Husky Soccer Field.
The Huskies improved to 2-0-0 on the season while Loyola Marymount fell to 0-1-1.
Washington controlled possession of the ball during the first half and held a 7-2 shot advantage with four shots on goal, but LMU goalkeeper Collin Partee turned away each attempt through the first 45 to keep the match scoreless.
The Huskies equaled its offensive intensity to open the second half with multiple early attacks and was finally able to break through in the 76th minute. Sophomore Joey Parish gathered a throw in from senior Justin Fiddes and spun to his right before burying a goal into the bottom left corner to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
In the 82nd minute, sophomore Handwalla Bwana extended the lead with his first goal of the season in a breakaway situation. Parish sent a beautiful ball through and after Bwana juked his defender with a cutback, he placed it with perfection around the goalkeeper and into the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper Saif Kerawala tallied one save in the match, which came late in the 89th minute.
Washington ended the match with a 15-5 advantage in shots, including 10-1 in shots on goal. The Huskies also had five corner kicks to LMU's three.
Next up, the Huskies hit the road to play Akron in Ohio Friday (Sept. 1) before traveling to Spokane to face Gonzaga Thursday (Sept. 7).
