Pac-12 Championship Recap
The Huskies are coming off of a seventh-place showing at the Pac-12 Championships over three days of extremely windy conditions in Tucson, Arizona. Sophomore Julianne Alvarez claimed a tie for ninth which was the second-best finish by a Husky since 2006. Alvarez climbed the leaderboard throughout the event en route to her best showing at the league championship as she finished with a 5-over 221 for the second-straight tournament. The Huskies also saw sophomore Wenyung Keh tie for 22nd.
On the Upswing
The Huskies have had a strong showing the last three times out, posting two top three finishes while also taking home a team title. First the Dawgs claimed the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational crown in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico as they posted a 9-over 873 (295-298-280) to earn the win. Their 8-under 280 final round was the Huskies best 18-hole round of the season. They followed that up by placing third at the prestigious PING/ASU Invitational with their best three-round score of the year, finishing at even-par 864 (287-294-283). Overall, Washington has earned four top five finishes in 12 events so far this season.
Freshmen Making Waves
For the second-straight year, the Washington freshmen have played a key role in UW's success. Karen Miyamoto, who joined the team in January has earned two top 10 finishes in just seven events while recording the third-best stroke average on the team. Additionally, Ellen Takada has been UW's top finisher in two of the last threeoutings, placing tied for second at the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational before earning a fourth-place finish at the PING/ASU Invitational. The pair have each posted three rounds under par while Ellen's 5-under 211 at the PING/ASU was the best 54-hole score by a Husky this season.
Defending National Champions
The Huskies are coming off of a record setting season as they won the 2016 NCAA National Championship in Eugene last May, defeating Stanford in epic fashion with a 3-2 victory in extra holes. Three of UW's national championship members are still here in the purple and gold as they were freshmen during that exciting run. Sophomores Wenyung Keh, Julianne Alvarez and Sarah Rhee have all had significant impacts for the Dawgs this season in their second year with the Dawgs. The trio have combined for five top 10 finishes.
