
Huskies Open NCAA Championships Against Tulane

AUSTIN, Texas – The Washington men's tennis team is set to take on Tulane to open up the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships this Friday May 12th at 8 a.m. PT at the Caswell Tennis Center.
The Huskies (12-11) were selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season last week, earning their 21st postseason bid in head coach Matt Anger's 23-year tenure. Washington has been led this season by the junior duo of Mitch Stewart and Jake Douglas. Stewart has remained in the ITA Singles Rankings for nine consecutive weeks now, while Douglas owns a team-high 13 dual match singles wins on the year.
Playing in their second-straight NCAA Tournament as well, Tulane enters this weekend's match with an 18-5 record and an ITA Team Ranking of 29th. The Green Wave ended their season on April 22nd in the American Athletic Conference Championships, falling to UCF in the second round after opening up with a 4-0 win over Temple. In his 8th season at the helm, head coach Mark Booras' team has been ranked as high as 20th in the country this season, and currently owns four singles and doubles rankings by the ITA. Junior Constantin Schmitz was recently named the AAC co-player of the year after going 15-3 during dual matches, and sits at 18th in the country in the latest ITA Singles Rankings.
Washington will be playing for the chance to take on the winner between host-school Texas and Presbyterian on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. The Longhorns, who are the tournament's No. 10 seed, earned their 26th consecutive bid to the NCAA Championships and last hosted a regional in 2015. Texas' opponent, Presbyterian, earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid after automatically qualifying by winning their first Big South Championship. The Longhorns will face Presbyterian on Friday morning after UW's match, with a scheduled start time of 11 a.m. PT.
