Washington Falls To Utah 4-2

SALT LAKE CITY – Playing in their 6th consecutive road match, the Washington men's tennis team was unable to pick up a victory at Utah today, falling 4-2 at the Eccles Tennis Center.
"This is a very difficult loss," said head coach Matt Anger. "We came out really well in doubles, but in the singles, we had some decent starts, but were not able to sustain momentum."
The Huskies were able to begin the match by taking the first doubles match of the day on court one, with Jake Douglas and Piers Foley defeating David Micevski and Egbert Weverink. Utah drew the doubles even with a win on court three, but Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer were able to grab a 6-4 win, bringing the match at 1-0 in favor of Washington.
In singles, Utah was able to claim first sets on four out of six courts, and UW was unable to bounce back. Sommer fell on court two to even the score at 1-1, with Utah taking court one's match shortly after to take the lead.
After dropping a tough first set 5-7, Batta was unable to recover in the second set and fell on court five, but Foley fought out a three-set victory to keep the Dawgs in the match. However, Utah would get their fourth and clinching point by winning the match on court four, with court three's match going unfinished.
"Utah deserves the win," said Anger. "Up and down the courts they were making shots that we were not able to."
Washington will finally return home to Seattle, and continue their Pac-12 schedule, hosting Stanford on Friday April 14th, and taking on California on Sunday the 16th.
