UW Falls To No. 10 Stanford 1-6

STANFORD, Calif. – Facing their second straight top-20 team today, the Washington women's tennis team was unable to grab the upset, falling to No. 10 Stanford 6-1 at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

The Cardinal claimed the doubles point to begin the match, taking early leads on courts two and three, and eventually picking up the wins. On court one, Miki Kobayashi and Alexis Prokopuik led 5-4 over No. 67 Emily Arbuthnott and Taylor Davidson before the match was abandoned.

In singles Stanford picked up two quick wins on courts four and six to take a 3-0 lead, and eventually clinched the victory with a win on court two.

On court five the Cardinal picked up another win with Kenadi Hance falling in a tough battle on court three 6-4, 6-4 to 45th ranked Taylor Davidson. Leading 6-0, the final match in play was on court one, with 35th ranked Stacey Fung taking on No. 54 Caroline Doyle.

In the match's first set, the sophomore from Vancouver, B.C. was unable to win the tie-break, falling 6-7(6). Fung bounced back however, claiming the second set 6-4 to force a tie-breaker third set. After trailing 0-3, Fung won 10 of the next 12 points to claim her fourth ranked win in the last three weeks, and put the Huskies on the board.

The Dawgs will be back at it with their regular season finale next Saturday, when they travel to Pullman, Wash. to take on the Cougars at noon.
