Huskies Fall To No. 5 USC 6-1

LOS ANGELES β Facing their second top-10 ranked opponent in two days, the Washington men's tennis team was unable to grab the upset, falling to No. 5 USC 6-1 today at Marks Tennis Stadium.
"USC was very solid from top to bottom," said head coach Matt Anger. "This was the first time we lost that many singles matches in one day, we didn't necessarily play our best."
The Huskies dropped the doubles point to begin the match, beginning with Jake Douglas and Piers Foley falling to the 22nd ranked doubles pair in the country. The Trojans claimed the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court two, while the match on court three was suspended.
USC opened up singles by claiming the first set on each court, and eventually claimed wins on courts one and two to take a 3-0 lead. The clinching fourth point was won on court four, with Gal Hakak falling to Jack Jaede 6-2, 6-4. Amit Batta and Piers Foley dropped their matches on courts five and six, giving the Trojans a 6-0 lead on Washington.
The remaining match on court three began with No. 47 Logan Smith coming out on top of a close first set over Douglas 7-5. However, the junior from Rolling Hills, Calif. bounced back in the second set 6-1, and continued to roll into the tie-breaker, winning his match 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7).
"I think we can do better but USC was solid today, and they deserved the win," said Anger.
Washington will continue their Pac-12 schedule this coming weekend, heading to Tucson, Ariz. To face the Wildcats on Friday April 9th, before taking on Utah in Salt Lake City.
