
Plum Named espnW Player Of The Year

SEATTLE -- Senior Kelsey Plum of the University of Washington women's basketball team has been named the espnW national player of the year, the outlet announced on Thursday (March 9).
Plum, who was also named the Pac-12 player of the year by both the coaches and media, is the first player in program history to earn a national player of the year honor.
The Poway, Calif. native poured in a Pac-12 record 57 points to pass Jackie Stiles and become the all-time leading scorer in women's college basketball history in the final regular season game of her illustrious career.
In Washington's first game of the Pac-12 Tournament, Plum became just the third player in NCAA history to reach 1,000 points in a single season. The 5-8 guard is third behind Stiles (1,062) and Odyssey Sims (1,054) for the single-season scoring record.
Plum will enter postseason play as the nation's leading scorer at 31.7 points per game, shooting 53.3 from the field, 42.9 from three-point range and 88.8 from the foul line.
Just 11 games into her senior season, Plum broke the all-time Pac-12 scoring record and she later became the first player in conference history, male or female, to surpass 3,000 career points. She is just the 12th player in NCAA history to score 3,000 points.
Earlier this season, she became Washington's all-time career three-point leader and she became just the second player in Pac-12 history to eclipse 300 in her career.
In addition to scoring, Plum also averages 5.1 rebounds per game and a team-best 4.7 assists.
