
Fultz Named NABC Third Team All-American

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – University of Washington freshman Markelle Fultz was named a Third Team All-American the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Thursday. He is the first Husky to earn all-america honors since Isaiah Thomas in 2011.
Fultz was joined on the third team by Arizona's Lauri Markkanen, Wisconsin's Ethan Happ, Kansas's Josh Joackson and Valpairaiso's Alec Peters.
Fultz finished the 2016-17 regular season as the Pac-12's leading scorer, averaging 23.2 points. Huskies have led the league in scoring now for two straight years as Andrew Andrews led a year ago with 21.2 points. Fultz's 23.2 are the most by a Pac-12 player following the regular season in 20 years as Ed Gray from Cal led the league with 24.8 points per game in 1996-97.
Fultz is the nation's leading freshman scorer at 23.2 which ranks sixth overall. Additionally, he is the UW freshman scoring leader at 579 career points and is the first guard in 25 years to average 20 points, five rebounds and five assists per game while shooting 40.0 percent from 3-point range.
The freshman recorded 10 games of at least 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the season which is the most by a Husky player under Romar. It is the most 20-5-5 games by a player averaging over 20 points in the NCAA this season.
Fultz, who was also named a Sporting News Freshman All-American, will enter the 2017 NBA Draft following his stellar freshman season with the Huskies.
