
UW Back In Action With Two Matches In Hawai'i

SEATTLE – After taking last weekend off the Washington men's tennis team returns to action this week, hitting the road to face Hawai'i on Thursday March 23rd at 6 p.m. and Fresno State on Saturday the 25th at 1:30 p.m. in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
The Huskies opened the month of March on the road, defeating Minnesota 4-2 and falling to Drake 3-4 in Minneapolis, before returning home to the Nordstrom Tennis Center and taking down San Diego 4-1 on March 9th. The junior duo of Mitch Stewart and Jake Douglas have helped lead the Dawgs to a 9-4 record this season, with Stewart currently owning an ITA singles ranking while Douglas has entered the top-10 for best career singles winning percentages in school history. Freshman Amit Batta has also come on strong for UW this season, already amassing 24 wins across singles and doubles, including a 10-0 record in singles during dual match play.
On Thursday Washington will take on Hawai'i after the Rainbow Warriors face Elon the day before. Beginning this season with a 1-7 record, they were last in action on March 8th and 10th, when they hosted North Carolina State for a doubleheader, but dropped both matches. In his 14th season, head coach John Nelson's team is led this season by junior Felix Albert, who has played a majority of this year at the top position in both singles and doubles. The Huskies lead the all-time series with Hawai'i 4-1, taking the last matchup in 2015 when the Dawgs hosted the Rainbow Warriors and won 7-0.
Taking on Hawai'i on Friday before facing the Huskies on Saturday, Fresno State brings an 8-9 record into this week's competition. The Bulldogs were last in action this past weekend, falling to Santa Clara and Cal Poly in tight 3-4 matches. Junior Xander Veys leads the way for Fresno State this season, holding down the top singles position with a 7-8 record. The Huskies extended their lead in the all-time series with the Bulldogs to 9-7 last season, hosting them early in the year for a 7-0 win.
