Dawgs Pick Up Road Win At Hawai'i 6-1

HONOLULU – Back in action after two weeks of rest, the Washington men's tennis team returned with a 6-1 victory over Hawai'i today at the UH Tennis Complex.
"It was great to get the win today," said head coach Matt Anger. "It's always good to get started with matches after finals week."
The Huskies opened up the match taking quick leads in doubles, with last season's winningest duo Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer finishing first by grabbing a 6-3 victory on court two. Owning leads on the final two courts, Amit Batta and Gal Hakak were first to take down their opponents on court three, defeating Ruben Blattner and Eric Kenneth 6-3 to give UW a 1-0 lead.
To open up singles UW grabbed early leads on a majority of the courts, winning the first sets in four of six matches. Hakak was first to finish his match on court three, winning his 10th singles match of the year by defeating Fabian Woehrl 6-0, 6-1. On court five, Piers Foley put UW up 3-0 by defeating Spencer Travalino 6-3, 6-2, with Hawai'i taking a point back on court two to make it 3-1.
Needing a win on one of three remaining courts to clinch the win, Sebastian Hawken closed out his match 6-2, 6-4 to lock in the Husky win and make it 4-1. After dropping his first set 4-6 on court one, Sommer took the second set 6-1 before clinching the match in the tie-breaker with a 10-3 win for his 10th dual match win of the season. On court four, Batta came out on top of a tough battle with Marcel Chan, winning his first set 7-5 before taking the tie-break in the second 7-6 (7-3) to remain undefeated in dual match play.
Washington will have the day off tomorrow but remain in Honolulu, taking on Fresno State on Saturday the 25th at 1:30 p.m. PT.
