
Dawgs Fall To Oregon 4-3

SEATTLE – In their conference opener and first match played outdoors this season, the Washington women's tennis team fell to Oregon today 4-3 at Bill Quillian Stadium.
Doubles opened up with close matches on courts one and two, with each team trading points back and forth. On court one, Nour Abbes and Miki Kobayashi battled back from a 2-5 deficit to make it 5-5, but ultimately fell 7-5. Oregon clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win on court two to take an early 1-0 lead to begin the match.
On court five in singles, Kenadi Hance defeated Marlou Kluiving 6-2, 6-1 to draw the match even at 1-1. Freshman Katarina Kopcalic picked up her 10th dual match victory this season on court six, with a 6-4, 6-4 win to give UW the lead. After dropping her first set 6-3, Nour Abbes battled back on court two with a 6-0 second set to force a third, which she won 6-3.
On court three, Kobayashi narrowly fell in a tough match with Nia Rose, 7-6, 6-4, with Alexis Prokopuik falling in her third set 6-3, putting the match at 3-3. Dropping the first set, Stacey Fung forced a third with a 6-3 second set victory over Shewta Sangwan. However, after reaching a 6-6 draw in the final set, Oregon would eventually come out on top of the tie-breaker, giving them a 4-3 win.
Washington will take the next week off before continuing their Pac-12 schedule on the road. They will head to Utah on March 24th, and Colorado on the 26th.
