
Dawgs Head East To Take On Minnesota And Drake

SEATTLE – The Washington men's tennis team will hit the road this weekend to take on Minnesota Friday the 3rd at 3 p.m. and Drake on Saturday the 4th at 1 p.m. in Minneapolis at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Huskies are coming off of a weekend at home where they defeated Nevada 7-0 before falling in an exciting battle with Indiana 4-3. Sophomore Enzo Sommer has emerged as the leader for the Dawgs this season, owning a 7-2 dual match record including a 4-1 record on court one. Freshman Amit Batta has also begun his college career making an impact for UW, owning a 7-0 singles record and going 5-1 thus far in doubles.
Friday afternoon's matchup with the Gophers will pit two ITA ranked teams against each other, as Minnesota currently sits at 32nd. Coached by Geoff Young in his 11th season, they have begun their schedule with nine wins and two losses, most recently falling in a tough matchup with No. 8 Oklahoma State at home 5-2. Junior Matic Spec leads the way for Minnesota, owning an ITA singles ranking of 68th, and a doubles ranking of 32nd paired with junior Felix Corwin. Last season, UW hosted the Gophers at the Nordstrom Tennis Center, defeating them 5-2.
After falling to Oregon and BYU last weekend, the 6-5 Drake Bulldogs will travel to Minneapolis to face the Huskies on Saturday at 1 p.m. Head coach Davidson Kozlowski's team is led by sophomore Vinny Gillespie, who owns an 8-1 record at the number one position, and a ranking of 55th in singles by the ITA. Washington last faced Drake in 2015, a match that also took place in Minneapolis, falling in a close match 4-3.
