GymDawgs Win Floor and Beam At Stanford
February 06, 2017 | Gymnastics
STANFORD, Calif. – The Washington women's gymnastics team recorded a season-high 49.250 on floor and won both the floor and beam title against Stanford this Sunday at Maples Pavilion. The GymDawgs finished the meet with a final score of 195.825.
"We suffered some growing pains starting off the meet with a new routine and new line up," said head coach Elise Ray. "Starting with two falls is one of the worst ways you can start a meet, but instead of crumbling, this team rose to the challenge of coming back. They showed real toughness today. "
Kristyn Hoffa was crowned the floor champion with a 9.875 routine, just shy of her career-high. Malory Rose, Zoey Schaefer, and Joslyn Goings all scored 9.875s on beam to claim a piece of the beam title. Rose's 9.875, a season-high, comes after being sidelined for the first three meets due to injury. Hailey Burleson won her second all-around title of the season with a 39.050.
"Team always comes first and that's our focus," said Ray. "Yet team is really a compilation of individual efforts and there have been some amazing individual performances. These girls are practicing with an intention of excellence and consistency, and it's showing in competition."
The Huskies were down early after the first two rotations, but mounted a solid comeback with wins on beam (49.175) and floor (49.250) to fall just short of Stanford's score of 195.925.
"Today's meet was a true testament of how far this team has come," added Ray. "When it got tough, they were tougher. They rallied around each other, reset, and finished strong."
