February 12, 2017 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE, Wash. – The GymDawgs scored a season high on vault (49.100), bars (49.075), and floor (49.325) while tying a season-high on beam (49.250) as the Huskies finish on top of Arizona State, 196.750 to 195.150 at Alaska Airlines Arena Saturday afternoon.
"My favorite part of today's competition was when our team score was announced, though we were incredibly proud, there was a hint of disappointment amongst the team," said head coach Elise Ray. "What an incredible night for us, and we are so excited, but we all know we could've been even better. That's how hungry and determined this team is."
The Huskies won each event against the Sun Devils and had a total of ten gymnasts place in the top-3 on the day. Senior captain Kaitlyn Duranczyk was the highlight of the afternoon with her stunning bars routine that landed her a career-high 9.95, with one judge scoring her a perfect 10. She also tied for first on floor with a 9.9.
"Kait told us in the beginning of season, one of her goals was to earn a perfect 10 on bars," said Ray. "So to see her achieve this, I nearly cried! She works for it every single day. Hailey exemplifies what this team is setting out to do this season. She's becoming more confident in every meet, so expect to see her get even better as season progresses."
Alexandra Yacalis and Hailey Burleson tied for first place on vault with 9.85s and Kristyn Hoffa rounded out the top-3 with a 9.825. Joslyn Goings and Burleson continue to lay down stellar beam routines, tying for first place with 9.9s. Yacalis and Burleson tied Duranczyk for first place on floor with 9.9s.
Burleson placed first in three events and first in the all-around, scoring a career-high 39.425 in the AA.
Arizona State finished the meet with a score of 195.150, a new season-high for the Sun Devils.
