SEATTLE -- The University of Washington men's golf team continues play at the 41st John A. Burns Intercollegiate, an annual spring collegiate tournament hosted by the University of Hawai'i men's golf team at the Wailua Golf Course in Lihu'e, Kaua'i. The Huskies tee off beginning on Wednesday (Nov. 15) for the three-day event.
Washington will be joined by Pac-12 foes Arizona, Cal, Utah and Washington State in the tournament. Brigham Young, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Hawai'i-Hilo, Kennesaw State, New Mexico, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Santa Clara, Texas A&M, UNLV, UTEP and Virginia round out the 18 team field.
Wailua is a municipal course which played host to three USGA National Public Links Championships and has a Top 10 rating by Golf Digest as one of the best courses in the state of Hawai'i. It first played host to the John Burns Intercollegiate in 1978, the second year of the tournament.
Participants will play a total of 54 holes over the three-day tournament at the 6,991-yard, par-72 course with an 10:30 a.m. PT, shotgun start each day.
Last season in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Washington fired a final round of 4-under 284 to climb to fourth place and finish at 3-over 867 overall.
Jordan Lu led the Huskies, firing a 6-under 66 that tied the best round of the tournament. Lu made seven birdies to go with just one bogey on the day as he climbed 31 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 22nd. The top overall finishers came from Corey Pereira and Carl Yuan who were in a six-way tie for 12th at 1-under.
The Huskies are coming off a third place finish at the Arizona Invitational three weeks ago in Tucson. Yuan finished in a tie for second overall, a new career-best. With a career-low 6-under 65 in the final round, Yuan, an Pac-12 All-Freshman Team selection, led the Huskies with a tie for second-place finish.
