UW (2-1) vs. Virginia Tech (2-1)
UW wraps up its time in NYC at the 2K Sports Classic benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project on Friday as it will face Virginia Tech in the consolation game at 2 p.m. PT at Madison Square Garden. The game will be televised on ESPN2 with Jon Sciambi and Sean Farnham on the call. Additionally fans can tune into KOMO 1000AM and 97.7 FM to hear the official UW radio broadcast from Tony Castricone and Jason Hamilton. The Huskies have faced Virginia Tech (ACC) just once in program history, 33 years ago, falling 77-88 on Dec. 21, 1974 at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor.

The Coach
Head Coach Mike Hopkins is starting his first year at Washington, and first as a head coach becoming the 19th head coach in UW history. After spending 22 years as an assistant at Syracuse, Hopkins oversaw teams that reached the NCAA Tournament 16 times including the 2003 National Championship, four Final Fours, five Elite Eights and 10 Sweet 16s along with four NIT berths. Syracuse never dipped below a 55.0 percent record while Hopkins was on staff.

• Washington has had 10 or more steals in two of its three games ... last season Washington recorded just three total games of 10 or more steals in 31 outings
• The Dawgs have four players averaging double-figures in Jaylen Nowell (18.7), Noah Dickerson (18.3), David Crisp (13.0) and Matisse Thybulle (12.7).
• The last time two players averaged 18 points or more over the first three outings was the 2015-16 season - Andrew Andrews (19.7) and Marquese Chriss (18.7)
• UW has outrebounded all three of its opponents to start the season
• Noah Dickerson is averaging a double-double over his first three outings with 18.3 points and 10.7 rebounds ... he's led the team in scoring in back-to-back games
• Matisse Thybulle's minutes have seen a massive increase this season, averaging 37.0 per game compared to 29.8 as a sophomore and 24.1 as a freshman.
• David Crisp's 137 career 3-point FG's made currently rank eighth on UW's all-time list and are seven shy of seventh place (Justin Dentmon, 144, 2006-09).
• Jaylen Nowell's career-high six steals tie for the third-most in a single game in program history (the school record is nine set by radio analyst Jason Hamilton - 11/28/96)
• Sam Timmins led the Huskies in rebounding against Providence for the first time this season with eight ... six of those came on the offensive glass
• This is Washington's first trip to NYC and MSG since the 2013-14 season when it played in same event
• The only current player to have played a game on the MSG court is Noah Dickerson who won two Dick's Sporting Goods National Championships when he was with Montverde Academy (Fla) in 2014 and 2015 before joining UW
• Junior Noah Dickerson recorded 22 rebounds and added 28 points against EWU, both career highs ... his 22 rebounds were the most by a UW player since Steve Hawes had 22 against Stanford (2/26/72) and they also tied for the fourth most in a game in program history
• Freshman Jaylen Nowell recorded 32 points in his Husky debut, the most points by any UW freshman in their first outing ... it is also the second-straight year a UW freshman has scored 30 or more in their debut as Markelle Fultz had 30 a year ago
• Junior Matisse Thybulle has started in 68-straight games, which is the longest streak since Abdul Gaddy started 69-straight games over the 2011-12, 2012-13 season.
