
Huskies Head To The Bay For Alister Mackenzie Invitational

FAIRFAX, Calif. --- The University of Washington men's golf team heads to the Bay area for its penultimate competition of the fall season, taking part in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Fairfax Club, which plays at par-71, 6,734 yards. Monday will feature two rounds with Washington paired with St. Mary's, Pepperdine and California in the shotgun start at 8:15 am. The 18-hole final round is slated for Tuesday.
THE FIELD (GolfWeek ranking): Washington will be joined by 14 other teams: California (35), Fresno State, Harvard, Hawai'i, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego,
San Diego State (48), San Francisco (49), San Jose State, Santa Clara (4), St. Mary's (44),
THE LINEUP: The Huskies will send senior Frank Garber, sophomore Henry Lee, freshman Noah Woolsey, senior Jordan Lu and freshman Jan Schneider. Sophomore Shamu Bodhidatta will compete as an individual.
LAST TIME OUT: Washington competed in its toughest tournament of the 2017-18 season thus far, battling an impressive field of top-ranked teams. The Huskies managed a 12th place finish led by sophomore junior Carl Yuan who placed fifth overall with a 9-under 204 (68-66-70). Washington finished with a 7-over 290 on the final day to take 12th place overall at 859 (282-287-290).
LAST SEASON AWARDS: The Huskies had a pair of standouts, including one returner, last season in Corey Pereira and Carl Yuan who both earned PING All-West Region Honors. Yuan was also an All-Pac-12 Second Team honoree and led the team a year ago with 71.57 scoring average. He posted six top 20, two top-10 and one top-five finish during his sophomore campaign and also led the Dawgs at the Pac-12 Championships with a tie for fourth place.
LAST SEASON RESULTS: Under the direction of Alan Murray in his first year with the Huskies, Washington ended the 2016-17 season by appearing in the NCAA Regional, posting a seventh place finish at Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish, Washington.
NEW STAFF: This summer, Washington welcomed Thomas Sutton as an assistant coach for the Dawgs. Murray came to Seattle having spent the last two seasons in the same role at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Sutton is a former men's golf student-athlete at UAB from 2011-14, competing in 47 events throughout his career. UW head coach Alan Murray coached Sutton throughout his career in Birmingham.
