October 09, 2017 | Men's Golf
FAIRFAX, Calif. --- Senior Frank Garber birdied four of the final six holes in the first round, then shot a 1-under 70 in the second round to finish the first day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational 19th overall with a 4-under 138 on Monday at the Fairfax Club in Fairfax, Calif.
As a team, Washington struggled through the first day, posting a 9-over 577 (289-288) and sits in 13th place overall in the 16-team competition.
Garber, playing from the No. 2 spot, led the way for the Huskies, with both rounds having great back nines. The senior shot a combined 5-under on the back nine after carding a 1-over on the front. He has a way to go to catch the individual leader, K.K. Limbhasut of California at 13-under. However, his impressive round has him within five shots of the top five.
Sophomore Henry Lee was Washington's next finisher, carding an even-par 142 (72-70) through the first day. Lee dropped three strokes over the final 11 holes after a rough start to finish the second round at 1-under after a 1-over first round. The sixth hole was his kryptonite as he doubled it both times on Monday. Outside of that hole, he had six birdies and two bogeys.
Rounding out the group for Washington was Noah Woolsey at 9-over 149 (75-74); Jan Schneider at 12-over 152 (74-78) and Jordan Lu at 14-over 154 (80-74).
Sophomore Shamu Bodhidatta, who was playing as an individual, posted a solid two-round score of 2-over 144 (72-72). Bodihdatta had an up-and-down pair of rounds, recording nine bogeys and seven birdies on the day.
Washington wraps up play at the Invitational on Tuesday, playing 18 holes beginning at 7:40 a.m.
