PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii --- Noah Woolsey finished tied for 16th and Henry Lee placed in a tie for 23rd as Washington wrapped up the final round of its fall schedule in a tie for 10th at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on Tuesday.
The Huskies close out the fall on a strong note, posting their lowest three-round total of the year so far, finishing at 16-under 848 (280-283-285). UW golfers posted nine rounds at or below par including five in the 60s through the week.
Woolsey was the Huskies' top finisher, tying for 16th place at 8-under 208 (66-69-73) to beat his previous best 54-hole total by eight strokes. The freshman struggled a bit at the open, but closed out the day with a pair of birdies to card a final round score of 73. Prior to this tournament, Woolsey had just one round below par, but posted a pair of rounds in the red including a collegiate-low 66 in the first round.
Lee posted an even-par 72 in the final round and finished in a tie for 23rd at 6-under 210 (67-71-72). The sophomore also had a career-low 54-hole total, besting his previous low of 213 set near the end of last year at the Western Intercollegiate. Lee played within a stroke of par the entire round, carding a late birdie on his 16th hold to finish at par.
Frank Garber also posted an even-par 72 in the final round and finished at 3-under 213 (72-69-72) to finish in a tie for 41st. Garber, a senior, continued to play well as of late, posting his sixth-straight round at or below par and eighth in his last nine rounds. He opened the final round with three bogies on the front nine, but rallied with three birdies on the back nine to finish even.
Freshman Jan Schneider posted the low-round of the day for the Huskies and the lowest round of his collegiate career with a 4-under 68. Schneider had five birdies on the round with his only blemish a bogey on seven--a hole that played as the second-hardest throughout the invitational. Overall, he finished at 2-over 218 (76-74-68).
Rounding out the five for the Huskies was Shamu Bodhidatta with a 3-over 75 to card a final score of 12-over 228 (75-78-75). William Mansfield, playing as an individual in his first tournament with the Huskies, continued to lower his score each round, posting an even-par 72 to finish at 9-over 225 (78-75-72).
Louisville took top honors in both team and medalist play, posting a team score of 56-under 808 while Simon Zach won the individual title with a 21-under 195. Both were tournament records.
Washington takes a few months off before opening the spring portion of its schedule at the Arizona Intercollegiate January 29-30 in Tucson.
