January 26, 2017 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE – The No. 19-ranked Washington women's gymnastics team will host their first meet of the 2017 season this Saturday, January 28th at 1:30 p.m. PT against the No. 4-ranked Utah Utes. There will be free admission to all kids under the age of 12.
"It was great experience for us to be on the road for the first two meets, but it's a welcomed week without travel, and we're so excited to be at home, in front of our amazing fans," said head coach Elise Ray.
The GymDawgs had two event winners this past weekend in Berkeley: Junior Hailey Burleson continued her success in the all-around, placing first with a career-high 39.35 and Kaitlyn Duranczyk won bars, tying a career-high 9.925.
The Huskies improved their scores on bars and vault to post a 195.325 and are now the No. 19 team in the country in terms of average score. For the second straight week the GymDawgs posted their event high score on beam and are currently ranked No. 9 in the nation on the event, their highest event ranking. The Huskies hope to continue their upward trend against Utah.
"I love competing against top teams, and Utah is definitely a top team," said Ray. "To be the best we must compete against the best. Our meet outlook remains the same though, it's really a competition against ourselves; our goal being to keep improving each meet."
