Battle for the Cup
The Huskies and Redhawks will be competing for local bragging rights and the Wac/101 Club Cup this Sunday, Sept. 25. The two teams have an all-time record of 42-6-5. Their last matchup in 2015 ended in a loss for the Dawgs (1-2). The matchup kicks off at 5 p.m. and will be aired live on the Pac-12 Network.Β
Perfect WeekendΒ
Last weekend the Huskies improved to 5-2 after a double overtime win against Davidson and a 2-0 shutout against College of Charleston.Β
After Davidson took an early lead in the contest, the Huskies evened the score with a strike from Handwalla Bwana from John Magnus. Magnus' assist marked his first point in the purple and gold. In the second half the team had seven shots in the first 27 minutes, but it was Kyle Coffee who found the back of the net with a ball from Handwalla Bwana from 18 yards. The teams were once again tied at 2-2. The teams went into double overtime after they were unable to find the back of the net in regulation. Washington was on the offensive with three corner kicks and three shots while Davidson recorded zero shots in the final over time. It was a fight to the finish, but it was David Coly who ended the night with goal off the corner from Bwana. The final score of the match on Montlake was 3-2, Huskies.
Against College of Charleston, The team's persistence offensively paid off in the 20th minute when Scott Menzies made his first goal of the season. After a foul on College of Charleston, Menzies lined up for a penalty kick and didn't find the back of the net, but on the same ball he found himself inside the goal box and netted his second shot. In the 38th minute the Huskies earned their seventh corner kick of the match taken by Handwalla Bwana. Bwana's ball found the feet of Garret Jackson who then kicked it in for a goal. The Huskies went into the half up, 2-0. Goalkeeper Auden Schilder recorded four saves in the match.Β
This Point Last SeasonΒ
After seven matches last year the 2015 Dawgs found them with a 5-0-2 record. The team saw both Dartmouth and Harvard in the first seven matches, similar to this season.Β

Sunday's match will begin with a March to the Match from the Dawg Daze Freshman Orientation. The first 100 students will receive exclusive men's soccer t-shirts. Students can also enter a raffle to enter a hoverboard during halftime.Β
Leaders of the PAC
The Huskies currently hold the most wins (5) in the conference. They also lead the conference in shots and corner kicks. (See Quick Shots for a specific break down of conference stats.)

Freshmen Handwalla Bwana and John Magnus have proven to be two important pieces in Washington's offensive game. Bwana has played in all seven matches and started in three. He has two goals, four assists and 13 shots on the season. Magnus has played in six and started and three. He has one assist and three shots on the season.Β
Up and Coming
Redshirt freshman Joey Parish had a breakout weekend against College of Charleston and Davidson. He had four shots that inched closer and closer to the net. He showed his tenacity and grit and looks to see more playing time this season.Β
Scouting the Competition
SeattleU dropped their home season opener against Gonzaga 4-2. Most recently they shutout Davidson, 4-0 improved to 4-3. Five Redhawks have combined six goals. Senior defender Kyle Bjornethun and junior forward David Olsen were selected for Preseason WAC awards. The team returned 24 athletes and welcomed six.Β
Looking AheadΒ
After Sunday's matchup between the Seattle rivals, the team will travel to California to begin Pac-12 play. The team will first see UCLA on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. PT. Next they will face San Diego State on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 12 p.m. PT.Β
