July 03, 2016 | Baseball
The Huskies finished 2016 with a 33-23 record and second overall in the Pac-12 Conference standings.
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Washington is ranked 22nd in the final Collegiate Baseball poll of the season presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.
The Huskies finished the 2016 year with a 33-23 record and were second in the Pac-12 with a 17-13 campaign. They made the post-season for the second time in three years and were 1-2 at the NCAA Nashville Regional with a win over host and 23rd-ranked Vanderbilt.
Washington was one of three Pac-12 teams ranked in Collegiate Baseball's final poll. Arizona -- who the Huskies beat in two-out-of-three games earlier in the season -- finished the year ranked second after losing to National Champion Coastal Carolina in the title series. Arizona State checked in at 29 in the rankings.
As good as the Huskies were in 2016, they are set up to have a special 2017 season. They have a large core of their contributors returning after only six seniors graduated and Chris Baker signed to play professionally following the 2016 MLB Draft. Washington will also welcome in one of the nation's premier groups of incoming freshmen that features four players selected in June's draft. After several of the Huskies' highly-rated prospects turned down professional contracts to attend UW, Washington's group of 16 signees has jumped all the way up to 10th in the Perfect Game 2016 class rankings.
