Fultz Named MVP at #FIBAU18Americas as USA Takes Gold

VALDIVIA, Chile – University of Washington freshman Markelle Fultz scored 23 points as the Under-18 U.S.A. Men's Basketball Team defeated Canada 99-84 in the gold medal game at the FIBA Americas Championship Saturday night in Chile. Fultz was named the MVP of the week-long tournament helping the US team go undefeated at 5-0 and take home the crown for the fourth-straight year.

Fultz had a stellar week with the national team as he averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 assists and four rebounds while playing just 21.8 minutes per game. Despite only playing 21 minutes Saturday, the guard knocked in 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field to go along with five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

In the semis against Brazil, Fultz posted a double-double with 11 assists and 10 points along with six steals in just 19 minutes. He also put up 11 points against both Chile and the U.S. Virgin Islands in group action after opening the tournament with 14 points against Puerto Rico in the first contest.

The 6-4 guard will return to Seattle and spend the week with the Huskies practicing before the squad heads to Australia and New Zealand for their foreign tour on July 31.
