
Assistant Swanson To Coach With USA Baseball

Washington Baseball assistant coach Tanner Swarnson to coach at USA Baseball National Team Identification Series for Northwest Region U-17
Swanson will be in charge of the U-13 Northwest NTIS team from Aug. 10-14, U-16 Northwest NTIS team from Aug. 18-24 and the U-17 team from Aug. 25-28. He will be assisted by Mitch Karreker of Oregon and Kaino Correa of Northern Colorado. ย
The 2016 seasonย was the fourth year for Swanson as the volunteer assistant coach for the Huskies.ย Swanson handles the catchers and assists with hitting, base-running and bunting while also taking charge of the camps program.
In 2016, he mentoredย Joey Morganย to an All-Pac-12 season and helped him develop as one of the conference's best defensive and offensive backstops. Swanson will get a chance to help develop sophomoreย Willie MacIverย and Nick Kahle, the No. 118th ranked recruit and part of UW's 18th-ranked recruiting class, during the 2017 season.ย
He mentored and helped develop catcherย Austin Reiย who was selected in the third round of the 2015 MLB Draft, the highest drafted catcher in UW history.ย Rei earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 despite only playing in 25 games on the season due to a UCL injury.ย
Swanson played collegiately at Central Washington and has previously served as head coach of Green River CC.
