
Huskies Tied for Eighth After First Round at PING/ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. – The 13th-ranked University of Washington women's golf team sits tied for eighth after the first 18 holes of the stacked PING/ASU Invitational on Friday at the ASU Karsten Golf Course. Washington carded a 10-over 298 and sits 18 strokes off the lead heading into Saturday's second round.
Senior Charlotte Thomas leads the charge for UW, as she is tied for 24th after carding a 1-over 73 during the tournament's first round. Thomas posted her lone bogey on the second hole of the day and stayed at even following the next 16 holes to sit nine strokes off of the lead.
Fellow senior Ying Luo is one stroke behind Thomas at 2-over 74, which ties for 30th. Luo's day one round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 hole 15. Freshman Sarah Rhee was next in the lineup for UW as she is tied for 33rd with a 3-over 75. Rhee opened the day with birdies on two of her first five holes and despite a triple bogey on her seventh hole and a bogey on her 10th, she was able to finish her final eight holes at par.
Freshman Wenyung Keh will enter day two tied for 40th after a 4-over 76 on Friday. Keh's two birdies came on her final 14 holes and she was one of three Dawgs who were able to finish the last seven holes of the day at even par. Rounding out the UW contingent was freshman Julianne Alvarez who posted a 7-over 79 to sit tied for 60th.
Third-ranked UCLA holds the team lead at 7-under 281 while No. 17 UNLV and host No. 11 Arizona State are tied for second at 1-under 287. UCLA's individual's Bronte Law and Lilia Vu also hold the top two spots on the player leaderboard at 8-under 64 and 4-under 68, respectively.
Round two of the three-day 54-hole event tees off at 8 a.m. Saturday morning as UW is paired with Texas and Colorado.
