
Thomas Climbs into Top 15 on Day Two of PING/ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. – Senior Charlotte Thomas carded a 1-under 71 to climb 11 spots on the individual leaderboard on day two of the PING/ASU Invitational and now sits at even-par 144, which is tied for 12th heading into the final 18 holes. Washington, as a team, improved its score by eight strokes during round two to finish the round with a 2-over 290 moving its two-round total to 12-over 588 which is good for eighth. The final 18 holes of the three-day, 54-hole event tee off at 8 a.m. Sunday morning at ASU Karsten Golf Course.
Washington posted 10 birdies Saturday, led by Thomas' four, as the Huskies sit 20 strokes off the team lead, held by third-ranked UCLA at 8-under 568. No. 11 Arizona State is second at 7-under 569 while No. 1 Alabama is at 2-under 574 for third.
Thomas opened the day with a birdie on the par-4 hole one and finished the round with three birdies over her final six holes to climb 11 spots and pull her score within nine strokes of first place. The senior has is tied for second in UW history with 22 top 10 finishes and she'll look to make that 23 on Sunday when the final round gets underway as she is one stroke out of the top 10.
Freshman Sarah Rhee matched Thomas' 1-under 71 on Saturday, moving her five spots up the leaderboard to tie for 28th (2-over 146). Rhee carded birdies on holes six and eight and finished the day at even par to improve upon her day one score of 3-over 75. Senior Ying Luo is tied for 37th at 5-over 149 after posting a 3-over 75 on Saturday.
Freshman Wenyung Keh will enter Sunday's round tied for 45th as she sits at 7-over 151 following her 3-over 75 during round two. Rounding out the UW contingent was freshman Julianne Alvarez who moved nine spots up on the individual leaderboard to tie for 51st (8-over 152) following a six stroke improvement between day one and day two (79-73).
Washington wraps up their final regular season tournament with 18 holes teeing off with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Sunday in Tempe.
