April 19, 2016 | Baseball
SAN FRANCISCO – The best pitcher in University of Washington history Tim Lincecum was named to the Pac-12 All-Century Baseball Team on Monday.
A 36-member blue ribbon panel cast their ballots for 20 infielders/outfielders, 10 pitchers as well as Pitcher, Player and Coach of the Century. USC's Mark Prior was named Pitcher of Century, Washington State's John G. Olerud earned Player of the Century honors and USC's legendary manager Raoul “Rod” Dedeaux was selected as the Coach of the Century.
Lincecum, from Liberty High School in Renton, Wash., was 30-13 with a 2.82 earned run average in his three-year career that spanned from 2004 to 2006. He holds the Pac-12 record with 491 career strikeouts and holds the Washington pitching records for most wins, games started (51) and is second with 342 innings pitched.
He is the only Husky to ever win the Golden Spikes Award for the nation's top college player, doing so in 2006. That year he was 12-4 with a 1.94 ERA, striking out 199 batters in 125 1/3 innings. He was also an unanimous All-America selection and won the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, a feat he also did as a freshman in 2004 when he was 10-3 with a 3.53 ERA, striking out 161 batters in 112 1/3 innings.
Lincecum was the first-ever Husky selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft when selected by the San Francisco Giants 10th overall in 2006. He played nine seasons for the Giants (2007-15), winning two National League CY Young Awards and three World Series championships. He was a four-time All-Star and was the NL strikeout leader three-straight years from 2008-10. Lincecum also has thrown two no-hitters in his MLB career – both against the San Diego Padres.
