BURLINGAME, Calif. – The No. 30 Washington men's tennis team fell today in a delayed match against No. 42 Stanford 4-1 at the Broadway Tennis Center to fall to 16-7 on the season and 3-3 in Pac-12 play.
With rain in the forecast for the day, the match was delayed from its original start time of 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and moved to the Broadway Tennis Center in Burlingame, Calif.
The match began with doubles, as the 38th ranked duo Tom Fawcett and Maciek Romanowicz defeated Piers Foley and Wendell Watanabe 6-1, and Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer fell to Nolan Paige and David Wilczynski 6-2 on court two. With the doubles point clinched for the Cardinal, the match on court three was called off which Jake Douglas and Gal Hakak leading 4-2.
In singles Foley was first to finish as he fell to Romanowicz 6-2, 6-3 but Hakak was quick to grab a point back with a victory over No. 113 Nolan Paige. On court three Michael Genender defeated Jake Douglas 6-4, 6-1, with No. 8 Fawcett clinching the fourth point over No. 78 Mitch Stewart 6-4, 6-1. The remaining matches were abandoned.
“It was a long day today being moved up to Burlingame for the match and playing at the club there,” said head coach Matt Anger. “But it was a good match and it was well played, I'm just disappointed that we're still not out there playing right now.”
The Huskies will close out their regular season next weekend, when they host Oregon for senior day on Saturday the 16th. The match will be televised on Pac-12 Networks, and be free to attend at Bill Quillian Stadium.
