Huskies Fall to No. 6 UCLA

SEATTLE – The No. 39 Washington men's tennis team fell today to No. 6 UCLA 4-0 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center to fall to 1-1 in conference play.
“Just as much as I was thrilled with Friday's match I'm disappointed with today's result,” said head coach Matt Anger. “UCLA is obviously a very good team, they're solid from top to bottom.”
The match began with the Bruins edging out the Huskies for the doubles point after splitting courts one and three. With the match tied 6-6 on court two, Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer battled through a tie-breaker but were unable to grab the win, falling 7-6 (7-5) to Joseph Di Giulio and Karue Sell.
In singles No. 84 Mitch Stewart matched up against No. 9 Mackenzie McDonald on court one, but was unable to grab the win, falling 6-1, 6-2. On court six Joao Barra fell to Joseph Di Giulio 6-1, 6-0 with Logan Staggs defeating Piers Foley shortly afterwards on court five to give UCLA the 4-0 win. The remaining matches on courts two, three and four were suspended.
“We certainly didn't play our best, and some of that is the opponent and some of it is ourselves,” said Anger. “Next weekend we have more conference matches and we'll be at home, and I know we can do better and we'll be working on that.”
