SEATTLE – Second baseman Chris Baker was 3 for 3 at the plate, including a home run, and freshman starter Joe DeMers pitched six shutout innings as Washington beat Pacific, 6-2, in game one of a doubleheader Saturday at Husky Ballpark.

The win was the fourth straight for the Huskies (8-4) and gave them a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-four series against Pacific (5-10).

The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI single by freshman shortstop AJ Graffanino. Baker reached on a single and eventually came around to score on Graffinino' clutch two-out hit.

Baker scored again his second time up, but this time he was able to trot home. He lifted a 1-0 pitch from Pacific starter Ricky Reynoso (1-1) over the left-field fence for his second home run of the season which gave Washington the 2-0 advantage.

DeMers (2-0) made the 2-0 lead stand as he was excellent in his six innings of shutout work. He gave up two hits – both singles – and faced only two over the max. DeMers struck out four and did not walk a batter in picking up the second win of his college career.

The Huskies busted the game wide open in the seventh inning with four runs to take the 6-0 lead. Josh Cushing drove in the first run on a single, but that was only one of two hits in the inning. The next two runs were forced in on walks – three Pacific pitchers combined to walk five in the inning – and the final run came in on a wild pitch.

Alex Nesbitt pitched the final three innings to pick up his first career save. He kept the shutout intact before allowing two runs in the ninth.
