Dawgs Defeat Gonzaga 5-2

SEATTLE – The No. 35 Washington men's tennis team defeated Gonzaga today, in a 5-2 match at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The Huskies took the doubles point to begin the match, winning on all three courts. Piers Foley and Wendell Watanabe picked up their fourth win as a pair on the season at court one first, defeating Hayden and Jordan Smith 6-1. Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer won their match 6-3, with Gal Hakak and Jake Douglas finishing at the same time on court three, winning their match 6-2.
“I'm happy we started off well, we came out strong again today,” said head coach Matt Anger. “It's been a couple matches in a row now that we've started well in the doubles.”
In singles, Hakak flew through his match on court four, with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Emilio Moreno while No. 68 Mitch Stewart grabbed his 10th dual match victory on court one. Foley clinched the match for the Dawgs on court six, with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Ronzai Saurombe.
After winning a close first set 7-6, Sebastian Hawken dominated his second 6-0 to grab a win on court five. To close out the match Douglas fell in a close match that went to a tie-breaker by a score of 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 on court two, while Sommer fell in a three-set battle 7-6, 0-6, 6-4 to Jordan Smith.
“I was a little disappointed in those last two singles matches, but the tennis was really good today,” said Anger. “I just wanted the guys to go into their exams all on a good note which we did with the 5-2 win. I feel we're definitely making progress as a team.”
