No. 31 UW Falls To No. 28 Michigan On The Road

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 31 Washington Huskies fell today in a 5-2 match with the No. 28 Michigan Wolverines at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The doubles began with Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer unable to grab the win on court two, falling 6-4 to Alex Knight and Runhao Hua. Shortly afterwards Jake Douglas and Mitch Stewart fell to Davis Crocker and Lubomir Cuba 6-3 to give Michigan the doubles point. Piers Foley and Wendell Watanabe's game on court one did not finish.
In singles, Michigan jumped ahead early with Carter Lin defeating Gal Hakak 6-2, 6-1 and Sebastian Hawken falling 6-1, 6-3 to Hua. Michigan was able to clinch the match on court two as Alex Knight defeated Douglas 6-0, 6-3.
“Michigan came out right from the beginning making shots,” head coach Matt Anger said. “The Longer the match was going on the better we were doing though, unfortunately we couldn't get close to make the match long enough.”
Despite Michigan clinching the win, the Huskies battled hard in the final three singles matches. On court six, Foley fell in a back and forth match to Kevin Wong after winning the first set, but falling in the second and losing the close tie-breaker by a score of 12-10. Court one featured a battle between two ranked players in No. 95 Stewart and No. 60 Jathan Malik. Stewart came out on top of a close first set and powered through the second to win 7-6 (1), 6-2. In the final match of the day on court three, Sommer came out on top of another close one over David Crocker 7-6(2), 6-4.
