UW 21st In Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll
December 20, 2016 | Baseball
TUCSON, Ariz. - The Huskies are ranked 21st in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I pre-season poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum. Washington is coming off a 33-23 season in which they finished second in the Pac-12 Conference and played in the NCAA Nashville Regional.
The Huskies return a majority of their players from the 2016 squad and welcome in a top-10 ranked recruiting class. Every starter in the field returns for Coach Lindsay Meggs except third baseman Chris Baker, while two starters on the mound -- Noah Bremer and Joe DeMers -- return in 2017.
Besides the All-Conference selection Baker, the Huskies will need to replace a bulk of their bullpen -- including unanimous All-American Troy Rallings. But, Washington is expecting big contributions from its group of newcomers on the hill, plus several top-100 recruits in the field.
The Huskies return five players who earned All-Pac-12 recognition last season. Senior outfielder Jack Meggs was named to the both the All-Defensive and All-Pac-12 teams, while junior catcher Joey Morgan took home All-Conference honors. Bremer, first baseman John Naff and second baseman Levi Jordan each earned honorable mention recognition.
Washington opens the 2017 season on the road against Santa Clara starting Feb. 17.
