PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea β In the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team's match against Mexico, Washington's Kelcie Hedge scored a game-winning goal in stoppage time to help the team advance to the semifinal at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup with a 2-1 victory.
The redshirt freshman from Post Falls, Idaho saw her first action at the World Cup when she was subbed on in the 68th minute for Jessie Scarpa at midfield. After the U.S. tied the match 1-1 in the 81st minute, UCLA signee Ashley Sanchez beat a defender down the right side of the field in the third minute of stoppage and sent a pass back on the ground. Hedge sent her shot off a defender from about eight yards out which found the lower left corner for her first goal of the World Cup, and fifth at the U-20 level.
