UW Finishes First Day Of Play At Jack Kramer Invite

ROLLING HILLS, Calif. – In the first day of play at the Jack Kramer Invitational, the Washington men's tennis team picked up two first round wins in singles before falling from the main draw, and advanced two doubles pairs in today's action.
"Our guys played hard today," said head coach Matt Anger. "There were a number of struggles and honestly, I thought we would be further along than we are currently."The Huskies first opening round win came when sophomore Piers Foley defeated Yale Goldberg of Stanford 6-4, 7-5. Enzo Sommer advanced as well after grabbing the win over Nicholas Baez of Pepperdine 6-2, 7-5.
In the second round of singles in the main draw, both sophomores fell, Foley to Simon Freund of UCSB 6-4, 6-1, and Sommer to William Little of Baylor 6-2, 7-6.
In the opening doubles round, two of the three Husky duos advanced, with Kawika Lam and Sommer defeating Michael Genender and Yale Goldberg of Stanford in a close 8-7 match, and Amit Batta and Sebastian Hawken defeating a duo from Baylor 8-5.
Both remaining duos at the Jack Kramer Invitational will play their main draw matches at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. Lam and Sommer will face Maxime Tchoutakian and Constantin Frantzen of Baylor, and Batta and Hawken will take on UC Santa Barbara's Simon Freund and Nicolas Moreno de Alboran.
