October 12, 2016 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – After picking up their first conference win this past weekend, the Washington women's soccer team will travel to Boulder, Colo. to face No. 23 Colorado on Friday October 14th at 2 p.m.
The Huskies (6-7-1, 1-4-0 Pac-12) are coming off of a weekend in which they split their two matches, falling to Arizona State in a tough 2-3 match in double overtime, before rebounding on Sunday for a 2-1 win over Arizona.
UW grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute against the Sun Devils, but ASU was able to tie the match up in the 86th to force overtime, where they scored in the 104th to snatch the win. Days later against the Wildcats, the Dawgs wasted no time getting on the board after Kimberly Keever was fouled in the box, with Shannon Simon converting the PK for her 7th goal of the year. Arizona tied the match in the 58th minute however, but the Huskies were quick to respond when less than three minutes later, Becca Schoales tapped in a cross from Pascale Dumesnil for her fourth score of the year to give Washington the 2-1 lead and eventual win.
The 23rd-ranked Buffaloes (11-3-0, 5-0-0 Pac-12) are currently riding a nine-game winning streak, and rank in the top-25 for the first time since the 2009 season. They have begun Pac-12 play by defeating Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon and Oregon State.
Colorado has been led by two freshman so far this season, in midfielder Taylor Kornieck and goalkeeper Jalen Tompkins, who have combined for three Pac-12 player of the week honors. Kornieck is currently in a tie for the conference lead in goals scored with 10, while redshirt freshman Tompkins owns a 0.49 goals against average, good for second in the conference. Washington is 2-1-2 all-time against the Buffs, and hold a 1-0-2 record when playing in Boulder, with the two draws at Prentup Field coming in the past two seasons.
