SEATTLE – After earning her second shutout of the season and 18th of her career, UW senior goalkeeper Megan Kufeld has been named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of Aug. 31 to Sept. 6.

“I'm really honored and excited,” Kufeld said. “There are a lot of great goalkeepers in the Pac-12, so it's a really cool to be recognized. This was a team effort for sure. For us to only give up one goal the entire weekend, against two really good teams - that took a great performance from our entire team.”

With a clean sheet in UW's 1-0 victory over Michigan to cap off a weekend sweep of the Wolverines and Illinois, Kufeld tied Hope Solo for most career shutouts in program history with 18. She made a season-high eight saves against Michigan, including a couple outstanding stops that saved the game for the Huskies.

“This is an honor and is very deserved by Megan,” UW head coach Lesle Gallimore said. “I thought Megan played well against Illinois, but she was tremendous against Michigan. On a day when we didn't play well in the first half, we gave Michigan a lot of opportunities, Megan really earned that shutout. She really did. It was an awesome way for her to tie Hope and also really earn this award.”

Kufeld also direct a Husky defense that limited the country's leading scorer at the time, Illinois forward Janelle Flaws, to no shots on goal. The Huskies only gave up four shots against Illinois.

This is the third time Kufeld has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week, earning the honor once last season and once in 2013 as a sophomore. Kufeld has accumulated many other honors during her career at UW, including being named to the Capital One Academic All-American Third Team in 2014 and earning All-Pac-12 Honorable mention honors as a sophomore.

In addition to her spot atop the program shutout rankings with Hope Solo, Kufeld is among the top-10 in several other categories in the UW record books. She is No. 4 all-time with 210 career saves and No. 1 in goals against average with at .97 goals per game for her career. She also has numerous single-season top-10 records.
