Demers Called Top Pitching Prospect In WCL
August 20, 2015 | Baseball
Although incoming freshmen Joe Demers and AJ Graffanino have yet to officially start college at the University of Washington, they both drew high praise after playing this summer in the college-laden West Coast League.
Both handled themselves very well against older competition this summer and both were declared future stars for the Huskies by d1baseball.com writer Aaron Fitt.
Demers was 1-1 with a 2.07 ERA for the Walla Walla Sweets. He struck out 27 and walked 10 in 30 1/3 innings. His mid-90s fastball and ability to mix in his swing-and-miss curveball and slider led Fitt to label Demers as the "best pitching prospect in the WCL."
Graffanino hit .300 in 30 games with the Cowlitz Blackbears. He had 90 at-bats this summer and plenty of opportunities in the field to show-off his plus-arm and range at shortstop. Fitt declared that Graffanino has the potential to "blossom into a marquee prospect for the Huskies in the next three years."
