
Top-10 Throws Marks Cap Off Stanford Invite

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The fortieth Stanford Invitational is in the books, and the Huskies had another well-rounded day with heat wins in the sprints, mid-distances, and top-10 marks in the throws. The women's throwers moved up the Husky charts in the discus, javelin, and the hammer throw today at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
Redshirt freshman Gina Flint made her mark for the first time on the women's discus top-10 list, as she threw 163-9 today, which came on her fifth of six throws. That moves Flint to No. 8 all-time among Huskies. Setting a PR in the hammer was junior Bev Coleman, as she tossed 167-2, improving her No. 6 mark in Husky history. Junior Carolyn Gravelle also threw 155-1 in the hammer today. Freshman Jack Lembcke threw 52-2 in the shot put while sophomore Dan Boyden went 50-4 ¾.
Freshman Lyndsay Leatherman had a big toss in the javelin, jumping to No. 7 all-time with a mark of 148-7. Sophomore Ashley Alexander sent one 134-6, and Koryn Andrus also threw 128-6 today.
Triple jumpers Casey Burns and Alanna Coker continue to deliver consistently excellent marks. Burns broke into the 49-foot range for the first time today, going 49-0 ¼ into a headwind to finish third in the invite section. Coker took third in the invitational triple jump, jumping 39-6 ½, a couple inches off her season-best. Jaleecia Roland opened her outdoor season at 38-3 ½.
Following up on three big heat wins by the Husky sprinters on Friday, Andrew Brown picked up another in the 200-meters, running a PR of 21.60 seconds to win the fifth heat. Gianna Woodruff posted a quick 200-meters into a -1.2 headwind, going 24.60 seconds.
The finals of the men's 110m hurdles included both junior Chris Williams and senior Howard Lao. Both were slightly off their prelim times, but Williams still ran a very quick 14.22 seconds to finish second overall, with Lao going 14.72 for fourth.
The Huskies put together a strong run in the men's 4x100m relay this afternoon. Lucas Strong, Quadelle Satterwhite, Jacopo Spano, and Williams combined to post a 40.64 time and finish third overall. The top women's 4x4 relay came through fourth in its heat in a time of 3:45.62, while the men's squad ran a four-second season-best of 3:14.50.
The longest distances left after Friday night's marathon were the 800-meters this afternoon. Izaic Yorks came away with a victory in section two of the men's 800m, winning in 1:49.94. Redshirt freshman Michael Thomas ran a PR of 1:52.53 to take second in his heat and Keith Williams was right behind in third in 1:52.57. Andrew Prentice also clocked a 1:53.23.
Next Saturday the Huskies will return to a team score format, heading to Hayward Field for the Pepsi Team Invitational hosted by Oregon.
