April 18, 2015 | Track & Field
WALNUT, Calif. – Numerous career-bests were churned out by the Husky sprinters and mid-distance crew today as Washington began its annual visit to the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. The women's 4x100m relay picked up a win today as did senior Haley Jacobson in the 200-meters.
Taking a big win today in the open sections was the women's 4x1, which raced to yet another great time, just .04 off its season-best today, winning in 45.26 seconds. Jacobson, Kennadi Bouyer, Gianna Woodruff, and Sierra Peterson teamed for the victory.
Jacobson came back later in the day and won her 200-meters heat in 23.88 seconds, her first time under the 24-second barrier, though it was slightly wind-aided at 2.7. Peterson, running in the same heat, had an all-conditions season-best of 24.48 seconds as well.
In the evening, junior Izaic Yorks was the last Husky to take the track, in the second invitational section of the men's 1,500-meters. An NCAA semifinalist in the event last year, Yorks ran it for the first time this outdoor season, and posted a very impressive 3:43.31, second in his heat, and moving to seventh in the NCAA West Region.
Sophomore Andrew Brown continues to build a great season, as he clocked a new collegiate PR in the quarter mile, taking second in his heat in 47.32 seconds. At 200-meters, junior Quadelle Satterwhite posted a new PR, running 21.30 seconds. Satterwhite has a wind-aided 21.24 this year but the 21.30 was a new wind-legal career-best. Freshman Jacopo Spano went 21.62 today, with a little wind at his back, but still the fastest of his season thus far.
Three men's vaulters took to the air today, with J.J. Juilfs and Chris Williams both getting over 16-6 ¾. Redshirt freshman Lev Marcus made 16-0 ¾. Elizabeth Quick had a clearance of 13-3 ½ on the women's side, going out after attempting 13-9 ¼. Kristina Owsinski, Diamara Planell Cruz, and Jax Thoirs are slated to compete on Saturday.
The Husky hurdlers were the first Dawgs on the track this morning. Freshman Eric Simpson lowered his PR at the 110-meter distance to 14.64 seconds, while Howard Lao ran 14.80. Kimberly Stueckle ran 13.99 seconds and Naivasha Sophusson Smith ran for the second straight week, going 14.47.
In the open sections of the women's 1,500-meters, Baylee Mires had the fifth-best time of the day, clocking 4:24.03. Senior Eleanor Fulton ran 4:28.30 and freshman Anna Maxwell ran a 4:28 time for the second straight week, going 4:28.86.
At 800-meters, freshman Rose Christen had a season-best of 2:09.56. A 1:52.08 time by Andrew Prentice led the men.
